Our little girl is growing up

Katelyn turned the BIG 1-1 last week...  She thinks she is 2-1 and knows everything of course.  Who knew parents were so dumb?  Her teacher gave me a bit of comforting advice the other day.  She told me that girls at this age and throughout their teen years need to separate from their mothers.  This separation is needed for healthy development.  They do come back to their mothers as adults, at which time they develop a friendship.  Then the light bulb went off in my head when I realized the grief that I gave my mom at this age and for many years to follow.  I am holding on with both hands now and bracing myself for what's to come...

I wanted to make sure that we were able to do something fun with Katelyn's friends to celebrate her birthday.  Being that this will be the last birthday celebration before we take off.  Well, we can't really have a sleep over on the boat... So, I planned a camping slumber party instead.  We reserved our campsite and kept our fingers crossed that we would not be rained out.  We ended up with a beautiful day on Saturday, then the rain set in overnight.  We woke up to a very soggy campsite on Sunday.  Luckily the girls slept in and woke up just in time to pack up and have a quick breakfast before parents arrived for pick up.  All in all we had a great time with crafts, a scavenger hunt, and an obstacle course.  But let it be known, this will be the last camping trip we will have in a very looooong time.  It just seems like so much work for such a small time period, then you have to turn around and clean everything up.  Not my idea of fun.

By the way, where did the past 11 years go?
